Davis – Monthan AFB Paving IDIQ

Project Description

West Point serves as the prime contractor on this Paving IDIQ. Task Orders include airfield, street, and parking lot maintenance and repair with 9 completed task orders to date.

  • Task Order 1 - This project consisted of constructing a 221’x 119’ asphaltic concrete parking lot with 42 parking stalls north of AMARG facility 7465. Excavation and site preparation were performed. The addition of concrete islands along with standardized pavement markings were included. Two cuts along the northwest perimeter curbing and connecting walkways were created to allow for positive drainage away from the parking lot. Two cuts along the east side of the parking lot with connecting walkways were created for pedestrian access to the existing sidewalk east of the proposed parking lot.  Pavement markings were applied.
  • Task Order 2 - PDC parking lot consisted of redesigning the curbing to connect both parking lots, replacing 716 lf of V-curb, building of 9 new ADA compliance ramps, and the addition of 1896 lf of sidewalk. Removed approximately  58,655 sf of asphalt by milling 3 inches of asphalt and 7 inches of subgrade. Continued with scarification of the whole site, the material was then mixed and watered to ensure proper compaction. 2,395 tons of ABC mix was placed 7 inches thick then graded and compacted to meet requirements. Testing was taken every 1,000 sy. A layer of 3 inch HMA was placed, compacted, and tested to required specs. Striping was then completed as well as 13 handicap signs.
  • Task Order 3 - This project replaced the parking lot of Building 2525 by first milling and removing asphalt concrete (AC), then by excavating the site, preparing the subgrade, adding/preparing a 7-inch layer of aggregate base course (ABC), paving a 3-inch layer of hot mix asphaltic (HMA) concrete, repairing a small curb section, installing a concrete pad, and striping the pavement, and installing new and reinstalling removed parking bumpers.
  • Task Order 4 - Building 5111 consisted of removing asphalt by milling 3 inches of asphalt and 7 inches of sub-grade and replacing extruded curbing with vertical curbing. Originally only half of the curbing was included in the TO but a change order was issued to replace the remainder. Scarified the sub base mix to add appropriate water content. Spread ABC mix at 7 inches, graded and compacted, and tested density. Placed a 3-inch layer of HMA, compacted and tested it.  Striping was completed.
  • Task Order 5 -Yuma fog seal was a maintenance of a 1.3-mile-long road. Small amounts of crack seal were used as the road was only 2 years old. We shot Quick Seal fog seal from Western Emulsions with a spreader truck. Stripping was completed to match existing. This work was performed on the weekend to try and protect the workers from traffic and limit the impact to base traffic.
  • Task Order 6 - Arizola St consisted of removing asphalt by milling 63,870 SF of existing material. 2,710 tons of ABC mix where placed at 7 inches thick, grading had a small crown. Placed 3 inches of HMA, compacted, and tested as required. Striping to match existing layout.
  • Task Order 7 - Craycroft road consisted of removing 101,915 SF asphalt. Demoed 2156 lf of curb & gutter to replace with V-curb meeting the new requirements of DMAFB. 280 tons of ABC mix was placed at 7 inches thick. Three inches of HMA was placed compacted and tested. Stripping of the road was to match existing layout.
  • Task Order 8 - This project consisted of applying fog seal at the AMARG parking lot north of building 7456, to include preparing the surface, and applying fog seal.
  • Task Order 9 - The Craycroft & Ironwood intersection consisted of changing out the traffic loops that were previously damaged. A section 50 ft by 34 ft of asphalt was removed on 3 sides of the intersection. Scarified sub base. Spread ABC mix at 7 inches thick graded and compacted to match existing.  Once our grade was tested and passed, the electrical shop from DMAFB placed the traffic loops. Placed a 3-inch layer of HMA compacted and tested. Striping re-done to match existing.
