El Paso 4-Mile Fence Replacement

Project Description

This project consisted of constructing 4 miles of a steel bollard fence 18’ tall along the Rio Grande River in the downtown area of El Paso. WPC worked between the El Paso water canal and the Rio Grande River. Work area varied between 18’ and 40’ wide. All existing underground El Paso Electric lines had to be removed. Maintained 17 light plants to keep all of CBP’s cameras in operation throughout job. Removed 4 miles of existing secondary chain link fence and 4 miles of existing steel mesh primary fence. Border fence consisted of excavating a 6’ deep by 16” wide trench. Installing a #4 rebar cage on 12” centers, vertically and horizontally. Bollard fence was premade in 8’ wide panels had to be braced up with 2’ of steel bollard in the trench and 18’ above ground level and filled with concrete. All rebar had to be tied together to maintain a continuous concrete foundation throughout job. All panels had to be welded together with tie plates and had a 5’ wide anti climb steel plate at the top. The last 900’ of border fence had to be installed in a 6’ tall by 3’ wide grade beam poured on top of 12’ deep by 36” diameter pier shafts. Installed 12 pedestrian gates 18’ tall and 8 double leaf swing gates 18’ tall. Also installed 2 automated sliding gates 18’ tall and 20’ wide openings. Installed 1 automated double leaf gate 18’ tall. Installed 4 miles of an unground LGDS fiber optic cable.
