Ft Huachuca Roundabout Project

Project Description

WPC was contracted as a turnkey subcontractor to construct a roundabout and approaching road connections in the area of Squier Rd and Winrow Ave. by Prime Contractor – Corbara Building Group. The project was administered by U.S. Army Corps Fort Huachuca office and design/plans provided by USACE Albuquerque District. Extra work included the construction of a bike path adjacent to constructed traffic circle.  

Scope of Work

In general the scope of work included clearing/grubbing and demolition of existing roadways within the proposed location of the roundabout and bike path, preparing and compacting subgrade, placing and compacting subbase, placing and compacting ABC, forming and placing curb and gutter surrounding the roundabout, asphalt paving of the roundabout and bike path, installing new traffic signs, landscaping within the roundabout, and all applicable pavement marking striping. Quantities of demolition and construction: 1066 square yards of asphalt bikepath (2” thick AC), 11,402 square yards of demolished asphalt roadway, 7,599 square yards of new asphalt concrete pavement (4” thick) with associated 6” subbase and 6” aggregate base below. Also constructed was 1450 linear feet of 14” x 32” curb and gutter adjacent to traffic circle, 180 linear feet of 24” diameter corrugated metal pipe and 15 linear feet of 42” diameter reinforced concrete pipe and 400 square feet of grouted rip rap outfall for storm drainage. A 3’ x 2’ x 4’ deep precast catch basin with DI grate and cast concrete skirt (6”) was also installed at inlet to storm drain. Landscaping install consisted of grading interior of traffic circle, applying pre-emergent herbicide, and placing 10,000 square feet of ¾” decomposed granite rock, (5) yucca plants, and (6) large boulders per client’s direction.
