Past Performance - Building Construction, Renovation, and Repair

Project Description

WPC served as the Prime Contractor on this alteration and repair project. The Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine Brown field Air Unit is located adjacent to Brown Field Airfield and has been operating since 2003. The site consists of an administration building, aircraft maintenance hangar, aircraft storage shade structure, helipad, and parking apron. The project involved modifications to the facilities including replacing the shade structure over the fuel tank, constructing a shade structure over the fuel pump and hoses, replacing the carpeting in the administrative building, and replacing the roofing system of the operations facility.

Scope of Work

This project involved renovation and repair scopes under NAICS 236220 for a secure commercial/ institutional facility.

  • Removed and installed 555-SF of breathable, PVC-free carpet tiles to meet the Indoor Air Quality rating TM 101 and CRI Green Label Plus rating, including 970-LF of wall base in the administrative building.
  • Replaced the existing canopy covering with a 72’ x 80’, translucent white, flame retardant PVC, laminated fabric canopy along with all necessary hardware over the fuel tank.
  • Applied 3,000-SF of two-part paint epoxy to the fuel tank, protective bollards, and accessory pipes.
  • Designed, fabricated, and installed a straight-beam, full-cantilevered shade structure to cover a 12’ x 12’ area of fuel hoses and a pump.
  • Replaced 1,800-SY of existing bituminous roofing system of the operations facility in accordance with OSHA and CALOSHA safety procedures.
  • Disconnected the existing rainwater downspouts from the gutters and protected them for re-connection to the new gutter sections.
  • Removed the existing roofing system, and inspected the roof deck for dry rot or other damage. The new roof system was an Underwriter Laboratory Class A system and included a roof deck vapor barrier, board type high density rigid insulation with an R value of at least 30, an insulation protection board, an elastomeric membrane, and walk pads from the access hatch to the mounted equipment. The new rain gutter was fabricated from galvanized steel and finish painted with two coats of semi-gloss enamel paint. The roof covering material extends to the full height of all parapet walls and is protected by a sheet metal parapet wall cap installed with concealed fasteners.
  • WPC collaborated with Customs and Border Patrol to provide an alternate roofing system that would meet the 20-year warranty requirement for this multi-level roofing system.
  • Replaced fuel pump hose with 1-1/2” x 50’ aviation hose and applied required regulatory decals to all four sides of the fuel tank to meet codes and standards.
  • Installed four weather tight LED canopy lighting and all required conduit, connections, switches, and breakers on the underside of the shade structure. These lights are located under the canopy in a pattern to create optimal lighting for washing an aircraft in night time conditions.
